Stacey Lawson Endorsed by EMILY’s List in Campaign for California’s 2nd Congressional District
Endorsement gives Lawson access to EMILY’s List’s fundraising network and campaign resources
Educator and small business owner Stacey Lawson earned the endorsement of EMILY’s List today in her campaign for Congress in California’s newly drawn 2nd Congressional District.
Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List, said, “Stacey’s enthusiasm for job creation is exactly what Californians need. A strong advocate for good jobs and quality education, Stacey will fight to make sure that Washington works for women and families.”
With a community of more than one million members across the country, EMILY’s List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation.
“I am deeply grateful for the confidence placed in me by EMILY’s List and I look forward to partnering with their one million members in our fight to give working and middle-class families a fair shake in this tough economy,” said Lawson.
The endorsement by EMILY’s List continues Lawson’s strong momentum in the race for Congress:
- Federal campaign finance reports show that, in the two consecutive quarters since Lawson became a candidate, she has out-raised all her opponents. Lawson has raised $455,000 since late September, turning the crowded race into essentially a two-way contest with Assemblyman Jared Huffman, who has been raising funds since December 2010.
- The Women’s Campaign Fund, a non-partisan organization supporting qualified pro-choice women candidates, endorsed Lawson last week. Both EMILY’s List and the Women’s Campaign Fund have extensive grassroots donor networks that can be activated to build on Lawson’s fundraising success.
- On February 6, Lawson published her detailed plan to created middle-class jobs. The plan – Making More in America: How Restoring America’s Manufacturing Strength Can Help Rebuild America’s Middle Class – is already making waves in the district and among political observers in Washington, DC.
Lawson, who co-founded and teaches at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology at UC Berkeley, started a company that created technology to help U.S. manufacturers compete in the global marketplace — and keep middle-class jobs in America.
