Congresswoman Janice Hahn Endorses Stacey Lawson for California’s 2nd Congressional District

Hahn finds common ground with Lawson on creating green jobs to get America’s economy back on track

Educator and small business owner Stacey Lawson earned the endorsement of Congresswoman Janice Hahn today. Lawson is a candidate for Congress in California’s newly drawn 2nd Congressional District.

Hahn, a passionate advocate for clean-energy jobs and green-tech jobs, represents California’s 36th Congressional District in Southern California. She said:

“I’m supporting Stacey Lawson because she has a rock-solid commitment to investing in a clean-energy economy — and the real-world experience to back it up. As the co-founder of the Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology at UC Berkeley, Stacey has worked on projects from solar energy equipment to green retrofitting services to electric vehicles.”

“When she comes to Congress,” Hahn continued, “I know Stacey Lawson will be a great partner in fighting for green jobs as a way to stimulate the economy.”

Lawson expressed her appreciation for the endorsement:

“I am honored by the support of Congresswoman Janice Hahn because she gets it — investing in green jobs is key to stimulating our long-term economic recovery. That’s why my middle-class jobs plan, Making More in America, calls for a renewed focus on American renewable energy production and energy conservation. I look forward to working with Congresswoman Hahn to create more green jobs in California and America.”

Hahn’s support follows recent endorsements by EMILY’s List and the Women’s Campaign Fund, continuing Lawson’s momentum in her campaign for Congress.

Congressional Candidate Stacey Lawson Proposes Middle-Class Jobs Plan

Leading candidate for California’s Second Congressional District aims to rebuild America’s middle class by restoring manufacturing strength

Educator and small business owner Stacey Lawson, a candidate for Congress in California’s newly drawn Second District, released her detailed plan today to create middle-class jobs.

“America needs to make things again,” said Lawson. “Creating high-wage jobs, middle-class jobs and steady year-round jobs will take revitalizing the American manufacturing economy.”

Lawson’s plan is called “Making More in America: How Restoring America’s Manufacturing Strength Can Help Rebuild America’s Middle Class,” and can be read and downloaded at StaceyLawson.com.

Lawson, who co-founded and teaches at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology at UC Berkeley, started a company that created technology to help U.S. manufacturers compete in the global marketplace – and keep middle-class jobs in America.

“All of my experience creating jobs and sparking innovation has led me to one simple conclusion,” said Lawson. “We can’t outsource our way to prosperity. We need to do more than just design, and then consume, products. We need to make things again.”

The plan is built around seven priorities with multiple specific proposals, including increasing lending to small businesses, expanding local niche manufacturing in the district, investing in education and vocational training, modernizing our infrastructure and restoring middle-class buying power through fairer tax policies.

Lawson spoke to her passion about job creation: “I’m running for Congress because I know just how important it is for families to have a path to the middle class. I’ve lived it – starting out in a trailer in a blue-collar logging town, earning an education and launching successful small businesses. Making sure every family in America can benefit from the opportunities that mine did is worth fighting for.”

Stacey Lawson’s Commitment to Working Families Brings in $215,000 in 2011’s Fourth Quarter

Lawson Establishes Leadership in Congressional Race

Educator and small business owner Stacey Lawson raised $215,000 in the final months of 2011, surpassing expectations and firmly establishing herself as a leading contender in the race for California’s 2nd Congressional District. Her impressive fundraising during what is usually a slow time of the year brings her campaign to over $455,000 total raised and $355,000 cash on hand.

“People in our district tell me they are looking for a representative who can help rebuild middle-class prosperity. They want someone with a record of creating good-paying, middle-class jobs standing up for them in Washington,” Lawson said today. “I understand the need to re-open the doors of economic opportunity for all Americans, because I’ve lived it.”

Raised as a young child in a trailer in a rural, blue-collar coastal community of loggers and mill workers, Stacey grew up in a working class family. Stacey’s grandfather was a mill worker who passed his commitment to hard work on to Stacey’s father, a small business owner who saved to buy his first truck in what became a modest trucking company.

Stacey found the possibilities in her life expanded by scholarships, government education loans and access to great public schools and universities. Stacey worked her way through college to become a chemical engineer with an M.B.A., then helped launch small businesses across California, creating hundreds of technology and manufacturing jobs.

Stacey is the only candidate in the race for California’s 2nd Congressional District with real-world experience creating jobs and helping small businesses grow. “We all know how important education and local business is for creating jobs,” said Alex Gallardo-Rooker, Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party. “Stacey Lawson has walked the talk for working families, developing businesses and products that helped keep manufacturing jobs in the United States.”

A leader in manufacturing and clean energy innovation, Stacey co-founded of the Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology at University of California, Berkeley, where she educates engineers and scientists on how to start innovative small businesses and become 21st century job creators.

“I am a firm believer that education is an economic equalizer, and that by investing in education again we can turn this economy around and make the American Dream a reality for all of us. I deeply appreciate all the people who share that vision and who contributed their hard-earned money to my campaign.”

Lawson Kicks Off Campaign with $238,000 Fundraising Quarter Leads Rivals and Demonstrates the Promise of her Candidacy

“It’s a great beginning, but we’re just getting started,” said Lawson

San Rafael, CA — October 17, 2011 — Congressional candidate Stacey Lawson (CA-02) announced today that she raised over $238,000 in the third quarter of 2011, her very first quarter as a candidate for public office.  Lawson, who formally announced her candidacy on September 23, outraised all other candidates during the period.Said Lawson, “Our fundraising success is a sign that our message of job creation is being well received.  I’m grateful and honored to be giving voice to so many people who are tired of seeing politicians squander the opportunity to restore real access to the American Dream.  This campaign is about strengthening the connections we have between engaged citizens and government, to bring forth our best ideas for creating jobs and restoring meaningful opportunities to all Americans.”Lawson has spent the last 17 years in innovation, education and social change.  She is the only candidate in the race with a record of creating jobs.

Following Harvard Business School, Lawson was instrumental in building three technology businesses, building a start-up from a single idea to a company employing hundreds of employees.  She helped American manufacturers like Boeing, John Deere, Ford, Caterpillar and Cummins collaborate across their design and supply chains (at InPart and PTC).  And at Siebel, she put powerful employee training tools in the hands of thousands of American workers.

Lawson is committed to empowering a new generation of entrepreneurs to create positive social change.  That commitment has led her to co-found the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology at the University of California, Berkeley, designing education programs for future leaders, helping 17 companies to get created and funded.  And it’s why she got involved in Tripura Foundation, to lift hundreds of families out of poverty by providing safe, clean sustainable housing, education programs, and healthcare; and Social Fusion, to empower social investment and impact across the non-profit spectrum.

In Congress, she’ll work to expand access to opportunity and to the American Dream, renew America’s commitment to real equal opportunity and progressive innovation in education, and an economy-wide transformation to renewable energy.

Stacey Lawson raises an impressive $238,000 in less than 60 days for Congressional bid.

Stacey Lawson’s first quarter-end FEC Report will show more than $238,000 in contributions – raised in under seven weeks.
Lawson’s impressive financial showing shows a wide range of supporters excited for her to take her experience of job creation, innovation and deep care for the people of Marin, Sonoma, and the North Coast with her to Washington. This filing is Lawson’s first for the campaign, following her announcement in early August.
Lawson links the level of financial support for her campaign with a clear resonance of her message. “I have tremendous respect for the people of my district and I’ve been listening to them,” Lawson said. “I hear them yearning for visionary leaders with real solutions for creating jobs and putting people back to work.”
This desire to listen and to help the voters of CA-2 is central to Lawson’s campaign. Last month, Lawson kicked off her bid for Congress with an interactive, district-wide Telephone Town Hall allowing 11,000 voters to engage in a direct conversation with Lawson about the issues that matter most to them.
When asked her thoughts on why so many people are following her campaign, Lawson says, “People get that I’m a real person – I grew up middle class in a small logging community. I went to public schools and put myself through college.  I’m a big believer in education being an economic equalizer.  And I’m the only candidate with a track record of creating real jobs.”
Prior to launching her campaign for Congress in CA-2, Lawson served at the center of innovation, education and social change for 17 years.  With a degree in Chemical Engineering and MBA from Harvard, Lawson has built businesses that help American industries stay globally competitive and has created thousands of jobs.  Lawson co-founded and teaches at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (CET) at UC Berkeley – equipping engineers and scientists with the skills to lead, innovate and commercialize technology.  In addition, Lawson has created community development programs and learning centers which have enabled hundreds of families to pull themselves out of poverty.

September 23, 2011

Stacey Lawson’s town hall marks the kickoff of to a new kind of Congressional campaign.

Thursday evening, Congressional candidate Stacey Lawson launched her campaign for Congress by asking residents of California’s 2nd Congressional district to share their opinions. It may not be typical of Washington, but listening is core to Lawson’s leadership style.

“We find the best solutions when we all work together. I hear people yearning for visionary leaders who can bring people together to find real solutions, rather than typical politicians angling for partisan ground. That’s why I’m running. I think we can do better,” Lawson told callers.

Voters in the newly drawn district were eager to share their opinions. Nearly 11,000 individuals joined the call, participating in a conversation about their hopes for the district and what voters need from their next Member of Congress.

“Thank you for entertaining this kind of conversation. I am glad to hear it,” said Heather from Santa Rosa.

Callers like Kevin from Marin voiced concern about the future of small businesses in the district. Lawson was able to share with Kevin and others her experience founding and running successful businesses that created jobs across Northern California.

Lawson was thrilled with the turnout and the opportunity to interact with voters from across state’s northern coast. “It may not be typical to begin a campaign with a district-wide phone call, going directly to voters instead of to political insiders but I don’t intend for this to be a typical campaign. I have never doubted what people can do when we pull together. I hope this campaign offers the opportunity for us all to work together to put our economy back on track while also protecting the social programs that people need,” she said.

Lawson came to politics through a non-traditional path. As she explained to voters, she is “not a career politician.” Instead, Lawson brings to the race a 17-year track record of creating thousands of jobs, keeping American workers competitive in the global economy, bringing innovation to local classrooms and engaging in areas of social justice.
